Arguments consist of premises and conclusions. Premises are structured so as to lend support to conclusions. The kind of support that a premise lends to a conclusion allows us to distinguish between deductive and inductive arguments. This week, you will be constructing both kinds of arguments.
1.In three premises each, construct one example of each following deductive argument form:
Modus ponens
Modus tollens
Hypothetical syllogism
Disjunctive syllogism
Make sure your arguments are deductively valid and that your examples are your own. Here are two examples of the general format that your arguments should take:
Modus ponens:
1.If it is raining, then it is pouring.
2.It is raining.
3.Therefore, it is pouring.
Modus tollens:
1.If Jack went to the grocery store, then he bought cookies.
2.Jack did not buy cookies.
3.Therefore, Jack did not go to the grocery store.
2.After you construct the preceding deductive argument forms, construct a three premise syllogism. For example:
1.All men are mortal.
2.Socrates is a man.
3.Therefore, Socrates is mortal.
3.After you construct a three premise syllogism, construct one of each of the following inductive argument patterns:
Induction by enumeration
Reasoning by analogy
Statistical induction
Higher-level induction
Your examples of inductive argument patterns should not be expressed in premise form. Rather, they should be informally expressed in writing. You should have one paragraph for each pattern. Be as detailed as possible.
Finally, please remember to label your arguments. This makes it easier for them to be graded. Include your name, course section, and the date at the top of your assignment document.
After reviewing this week’s resources, you will conduct a SWOT analysis of your proposed community health/nonprofit hospital partnership. Refer to your Week 2 critique as you prepare your SWOT analysis, taking into consideration the benefits of your hospital being a partner in community health. Using the template example shown in this week’s resources, recreate it in Word using Tables.
Your report should include an introductory section on the assignment, your discussion of the value of conducting a SWOT analysis, your SWOT findings and your summary which includes your justifications to proceed with forming the partnership. Each cell in your SWOT analysis table should include five to seven key items in bullet form. Embed your SWOT analysis table into your assignment.

In your first assignment this week, you identified the strengths, weaknesses (areas for improvement), opportunities, and threats of forming a community health/nonprofit hospital partnership. For this assignment, you are provided with this scenario:
Your SWOT analysis of the community health partnership identified three areas in which your partnership will benefit the community to reduce unnecessary emergency room visits and reduce the rate of readmissions within 30 days of discharge. Healthcare navigators provide guidance at the time of discharge to assure patients have the psychosocial supports needed for their recuperation. Medical interpreters assure language is not a barrier to patients whose primary language is not English, also known as limited English proficiency (LEP). A recent mandate issued by the Department of Health and Human Services requires health organizations to provide interpreter services for patients with LEP.
These three areas will become your goals for your strategic action plan. These goals are:
Increase the number of full-time healthcare navigators to augment existing staff.
Recruit and hire medical interpreters, as the hospital currently outsources this service.
Recruit and hire additional community health nurses to provide health education and conduct preventative care assessments.
In addition to the human resources needed, physical resources are needed to accomplish your goals (e.g., allocated examination rooms and equipment, consultation rooms with furnishings). During your walk-through of your facility with your leadership team and your director of facilities, vacant space was identified that the former physical therapy department used before their new department was built. Space has existing HVAC (heat, ventilation, air conditioning), plumbing, and electrical sources; and this space can be turned into a joint-use space with the community health department in this partnership.
It is anticipated you will need to build:
Three 144-square-foot exam rooms,
Three 150-square-foot consultation rooms,
One 110-square-foot office for the project director (yet to be identified to oversee this project)

Your hospital’s fiscal year (FY) begins in July of each year (i.e., FY 2020 would run from July 1, 2020, to June 30, 2021) and you will consider completing this construction project and hiring staff within one fiscal year. You have named your project A Partnership for a Healthier Community.
