1). I found the classical management theory interesting because it touches on all aspects of organization management. To begin with, this management theory emphasizes on proper decision making structures. Decision-making is imperative in any organization because it determines how goals and objectives are going to be met (Ferdous, 2016). Secondly, it embraced centralized leadership that allows organizations to move forwards without arising internal conflicts. Thirdly, this management theory focuses on profit maximization. The main aim of operating a business is meeting people’s demands and making profits for the continuity of business (Ferdous, 2016). Another interesting thing about this management theory is that it encourages streamlined operations. Operations management is paramount in achieving organizational success. Through this, an organization can prioritize on both short and long-term goals thus can contribute to organizational growth.
2). In order to make ethical decisions, one can employ a reliable communication channel that ensures the flow of information is smooth. For leaders to make ethical decisions, they need to gather all the data and information (Zeni, 2016). This can be done by accommodating facts from all levels within an organization because different perspectives offer a better angle of handling issues. In addition to this, critical decisions must be made with the help of different departmental heads thus a reliable communication channel can help deliberate ideas among departmental heads. Another managerial measure that can be used is conducting outcome assessments (Zeni, 2016). Every decision has consequences but this can be regulated through the outcomes that are witnessed in the long run. Ethical decisions assess all the viable outcomes of a particular decision to ensure all stakeholders are positively affected.
3). In response to the comment that former President George W. Bush made a bad decision when he learnt about the bombing of the World Trade Center during his elementary school visit is wrong. At this juncture, the president was attending the kids at his former elementary school which shows he had to consider both situations i.e. responding to the news and sitting calm for the sake of the children. As a leader, one should be confident in what he/she does because, without this, one can cause panic within an organization (Johns, 2016). In this case, President George W. Bush acted appropriately because if he had moved out and reacted immediately, this would have caused panic within the school. Secondly, upon receiving news, the president had to consider all factors i.e. maybe the pilot had lost control or it was a mechanical failure. Johns (2016) argues that without adequate information about a situation, leaders should not jump to conclusions because it might have negative consequences.
4). Some of my strengths when it comes to planning include; accomplishing what I have planned, allocating enough time to execute what I intend to do, seeking help on areas I feel that I might have issues, and assessing whether I have reached my goals after. On the other hand, I have some weaknesses when it comes to planning such as procrastination, inconsistency in reviewing the set objectives, lacking the flexibility to accommodate more ideas within my plans, and lastly serving my interests more than those of others. However, I plan to address these weaknesses by keeping time and not doing things at a later time because I am doing something else. Also, I plan on constantly reviewing my objectives to ensure that nothing leads to negative eventualities.
