Next conduct research on the industry in which your job posting falls. This research should be found from the SDSU Library as well as sources online related to your chosen industry. To find industry information in the library, focus on databases including BusinessSource Premier, IBIS World, and Mergent Online. Look for other business related databases as well that can help you in your search.
As you research focus on any information that might help you to better tailor your resume and cover letter to the job you are seeking. You can also look for information that might be helpful in a job interview. More specifically, your memo needs to contain information on:
The size, location, and customers of the organization you are targeting in Project #3
A brief history of the company (you can usually find this on their website)
Basic information on the occupation—accountant, manger, lab tech, etc. (look for this in the Occupational Outlook Handbook)
Industry information (IBIS World in the SDSU Library)
Typical industry products and services
A brief overview of industry performance
A brief overview of the industry outlook
Other Guidelines:
Your assignment should be in standard memo format
Single spaced, no indentations in paragraphs—just a space in between paragraphs
2 pages
Business writing style—direct, concise, clear
Use APA or MLA to cite your sources
As usual, at least two responses to classmates are needed in order to be eligible for full points. In your responses to classmates, you may wish to respond to:
The format and content of their memo
The industry or job posting chosen
Interesting or relevant information that may help them tailor their resume or cover letter
Any suggestions or insights about the job or the industry chosen
One of the most common inferences in life is the inference to the best explanation (sometimes called abductive reasoning). We use this type of reasoning to infer what would best explain the things that we see. Chapter 6 in our book demonstrates ways in which this type of reasoning helps us to explain the world around us.
Prepare: Review Section 6.5 of the course text on Inferences to the Best Explanation. Choose a topic that is difficult or controversial to explain. Some good topics include hoaxes, unusual sightings (e.g. UFOs, Bigfoot, etc.), the supernatural or paranormal (ghosts, levitation, etc.), conspiracy theories, unsolved crimes, court cases, etc.
Reflect: Do a little research to find a specific topic and learn about explanations on both sides. Consider what you think might best explain the observed facts of the case.
Write: Explain the topic you chose and why it is interesting or controversial. Present good arguments on more than one side of the issue (e.g. competing explanations of the facts). Analyze both arguments that you have presented. Then present your own argument for your theory that you feel will best explain this phenomenon. Are there any holes in your theory? Is there any information that would be likely to strengthen or weaken your case?
Educators strive to create a classroom that instills creativity and innovation. In this discussion, you will think about the creative and innovative instructional approach known as the flipped classroom (Links to an external site.) while making direct connections to the Common Core State Standards and teacher decision-making based on student assessments. Reflecting on your previous discussion on CCSS (Links to an external site.) in Week Two, you will complete the three parts of this discussion’s initial post.
There are three parts to this discussion, which are described below.
Part 1
Discuss how the flipped classroom idea can be used in conjunction with CCSS (Math or English Language Arts)
Describe ways you could incorporate technology used in the flipped classroom idea to support the Framework for 21st Century Learning (Links to an external site.) in the classroom as it relates to decision making based on student assessments.
Part 2
Now, think about assessments you have created or used in the past to address the following:
Discuss if a school or teacher should use a multimedia resource that is absolutely amazing in delivering both content and assessment, but is not accessible.
Evaluate whether the resource must be excluded from a course if there are no reasonably equivalent accessible alternatives.
Part 3
In one paragraph, reflect on your experience with the redesign in terms of challenges you encountered during the Week Two Assignment and how you overcame those challenges including any difficulties experienced in revising to meet the components of one ISTE-S standard (Links to an external site.) and the CCSS (Links to an external site.) (Math or English Language Arts) which are aligned with a minimum of one core subject and 21st century themes (Links to an external site.) and a minimum of one learning and innovation skill (Links to an external site.), one information, media, and technology skill (Links to an external site.), and evidence of at least one life and career skill (Links to an external site.
A single cause of depression has not been identified; however, there is evidence to suggest the potential for a variety of causes stemming from different psychological perspectives. For example, the biological perspective suggests that depression is a result of family history (that is, a genetic link), a chemical imbalance in the brain (for example, depletion of the neurotransmitter serotonin), a specific medical condition (for example, underactive thyroid), or even increased levels of hormones (for example, cortisol—a stress hormone). The cognitive-behavioral perspective suggests that depression is directly influenced by faulty thinking such as low self-esteem, negative outlook on the world and the future, learned helplessness (that is, a perceived lack of control that leads to giving up), and influences based on one’s gender, race, socioeconomic status, levels of social support and stress, or other environmental events (for example, divorce).
Based on your research into the causes of depression from your assigned perspective, debate the following:
Which comes first: Does a biochemical imbalance, medical condition, or change in hormone level cause changes in mood and faulty thinking, which leads to depression? Or do changes in mood and faulty thinking cause a biochemical imbalance, which then leads to depression?
Discussion Instructions
For this debate, you will:
Post your original position statement.
Respond with counterarguments to the original postings of two other learners.
Respond with a rebuttal to each counterargument offered to your position statement.
Each time you post, you are expected to support your position, counterargument, or rebuttal with evidence from research. Remember to use APA citations and references to give proper credit to authors of information used to support your arguments.
Discussion Standards
In order to keep the discussion focused and clear, everyone will adopt a specific standard for their responses as follows:
Position statement: Position statements should include a discussion of the issue, a detailed description of the perspective, and three individual arguments you have developed to support your position. The standard for posting your position statement is as follows:
Subject line: Position Statement – Your Name.
Message box:
Describe the issue.
Describe the perspective you are championing.
Describe three arguments with evidence from research to support arguments for your perspective.
Counterargument: Post at least two counterarguments to opposing learners’ positions. Each argument should include at least one piece of evidence to support it. The standard for posting your counterargument is as follows:
Subject line: Counterargument – Your Name.
Message:
Describe your counterargument to the stated position.
Provide at least one piece of evidence to support your counterargument.
Rebuttals: After you have posted counterarguments to the opposing perspective, go back to your original post and see who has posted counterarguments to your position and arguments. Provide a rebuttal to each counterargument posed by your classmates. The standard for posting your rebuttal is as follows:
Subject: Rebuttal – Your Name
Message:
Details of your refutation (rebuttal) to the counterargument.
Provide at least one piece of evidence to support your rebuttal.
